I have a few friends who have gotten tattoos (for their 18th). They each have gotten them in different places. They say some places hurt more than others. It all depends on where nerves are. On the bicep, it doesn't hurt too bad. On say, the shoulder blade, I heard it hurts like hell. Mostly though, the pain subsides. The first 5 minutes are the worst. Again, this is what I have heard.

The second they stop actually tattooing, the pain stops so you can take plenty of breaks. For me, it only hurt once when they got to the bony part of my foot where there wasn't really any fat or anything, the first 5 for me felt the same as the last.

two of my close friends (16 and 17) have tattoos and one of them (17) is scared of pain so it was really cool that she got one (Treble Clef on her right shoulder blade). My best friends tattoo is soooo pretty! I chose it for her. I'm allowed to get one but I have to pay for it myself and I have no money. :(
I really want a horse tattoo or the Eye Of Horus. :)

I got this tattoo right when I moved from Texas to California when I was 20 as a reminder to ppl I am DEFINITELY southern, no offense but I wouldn't be proud to be from California, lol, (no offense) I am only here though for my hubby (now that's love).

And here it is where you can see where it is.

This is my other tattoo, my first one when I was 18, I drew it myself, doesn't really mean anything, just really wanted a tattoo but wanted it to be original.

I just only have the 2. I have been wanting a 3rd and final one but I am VERY picky when it comes to tattoos and where they are. Honestly I don't like looking at them on myself which is why they are on my back but I LOVE they way they feel!! I fell asleep on both, it was like getting a massage!!! I just know I want my 3rd to be horse related, now I just have to think of a spot. I don't like clutter which is why I don't want it near my other 2. Well I guess time will tell and I will have "The Dream" of what and where it should be!!

I'd like to have a few, unfortunately I'm such a wuss - I'm afraid of pain that I haven't felt before. Ideally (if and when I work up the courage) I'd like to get this:

I'd like her body to extend down my foot and her wings would wrap around my ankle.

Morgan, they can hurt yes, and often times that is why they appeal to so many people. They are an addiction. I got my first one when I was 17, I was scared it was going to hurt, and it did ... But only for awhile.

In all honesty it depends on where you put the tattoo on your body. Some say that the top of the foot is the most painful place to put a tattoo, I have one there, and it was a walk in the park for me; I wouldn't think twice about getting another in that spot. The one that hurt the most for me was the tattoo I have on the small of my back. I actually had to take pain killers to be able to sit out the rest of the session. Luckily enough I knew the person tattoo'ing me, I don't think any respectful tattoo professional would allow a client to do that.

My advice for anyone who wants to get one, but hasn't yet: don't fear the pain, it's not as bad as you honestly think, and GET SOMETHING THAT MEANS SOMETHING TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't stress the later enough. I have a few tattoo's I just picked out of a book because they looked 'cool'. I'll tell you what ........ The tattoo's that I have that actually have a meaning behind them mean the world to me, I regret the others, and will probably cover them up.

Also, often times having a tattoo covered, or retouched hurts MORE than the initial tattoo'ing. Almost a week ago I got one of my most beloved tattoo's touched up, and it hurt MORE the second time around than it did the first, and I got it in a spot where they don't generally hurt. It's pictured below.

Moral of my story: I'm all for tatoo's, but try and find something that has meaning to you. You'll be happier with it down the road, and you'll be more eager to show it off.

P.S. My tattoo is at the top of my shoulder, and the picture was taken a day after the touch up, so it still looks a little angry.

I have 3- a horse shoe and Christian fish on one pelvis/hip area bone, a trinity knot filled in with green on the other side on the pelvis/hip area bone and 5 lilies on my right side (part way on my back and part way on my side).

I only have pics of the last one ... it is still fresh in the pic so it is a little red and swollen

Awesome tattoos everyone!

I really want a tattoo, but I doubt it will happen while under my mother's roof. I can barely get the piercings I want, so I doubt she'd let me get tattoos. :[

First one: 9 stars meaning to find my way in life without losing any part of myself. (9 is completeness in numerology, and the nautical star=finding your way)

Second one: my dad and I used to watch hummingbirds from the window of our house when I was little. He put this quote in my hs graduation card:
"Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Hummingbirds open our eyes to the wonder of the world and inspire us to open our hearts to loved ones and friends. Like a hummingbird, we aspire to hover and to savor each moment as it passes, embrace all that life has to offer and to celebrate the joy of everyday. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation."

I have three tatts, but only pictures of one on this computer! Of the other two, one is on the back of my neck (can't take a pic of it myself!) and one is on my opposite ankle, but it's kinda crappy and faded because I got it 13 years ago. But this is my "big" one, got it for my 31st birthday.

As far as the pain, my first on on my other ankle was nothing, the one on the back of my neck was nothing really except for right in the middle. This one, however, in the picture, was incredibly painful. Of course it also took 4 hours.

In the pics, it had just been done so 'scuse the grease and stuff. My tattoo artist did it completely freehand, she does amazing work.

ETA: For some reason, the second pic wants to be huge, although I've resized it three times. The rest of the tattoo wraps around the back up my ankle and halfway up my calf. :)
