Well, I'm going to go in a little bit of a different direction then everyone else..

1 - HANDS DOWN - The Vampire Series by Anne Rice. You honest just don't get any better then that. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

2 - I would have to go with the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. I freaking love it, and Odd is such a darn lovable guy.

3 - The Camel Club / King series by David Baldacci. He is such an intense writer that just grabs you and makes you hang on. Sort of like Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Identity.

I can't really number these but I LOVE the Alex Delaware novels by Johnathan Kellerman, and Dave Robicheaux by James Lee Burke, and Myron Bolitar by Harlan Coben.
Any of those can be interchanged as long as Anne Rice stays as number one!

One a more fantasy of sort, although it's not really my thing, I did read the first two books of the Mortal Instrument Series (City of Ashes and City of Bones, I believe) and they were actually really good!

Books. My favorite things (well almost haha)

    1. Song of Ice and Fire. Nothing else compares. Talk about world building and character development. They're incredible. You can't even describe it.

    2. I would put Harry Potter, but I want to include series that are less well known. Pit Dragon series or Dragonriders of Pern. Both well developed beautiful worlds.

    3. Gemma Doyle trilogy. A little young, but again beautiful characters and a well developed world. Well done by the author.

    4. I liked the first three Mortal Instruments books, but hated the later ones. The prequel series is much better. The name is escaping me now, but it starts with Clockwork Angel. There's another series I would put here but the name is escaping me. One book is... Ill add it later when I actually have the book with me. Mists of Avalon I think, but am not sure.

    5. My next top pick would be His Dark Materials. Another great series.

Sounds about right :) You should try and read them. The second and third trilogies are just as fantastic as the first, and tie in in some pretty awesome ways.
