I'm a writer! That's why I joined this forum, to find info about for a book I'm writing. I write poetry most of all though.

I have been writing short stories and prose/ poetry for the last ten years. I try to write every weekend and read writers who have influenced my particular style. Tennessee Williams, Millay, Hemingway (short items). I can learn a great deal from their efficiency of words, their dialogue and their imagery. Great way to create your own voice.

Enjoy !

I've always really enjoyed writing, but that enjoyment's starting to fade, and I really hate that. I have a novel idea I'm trying to work on, but the issue is I'm a perfectionist, so if the writing's terrible on even the first page of the first draft, i just give up. I need to just start writing for myself though, and enjoying it like I used to :(

I write poetry when inspiration moves me (which is woefully seldom).

Classical poetry is one of my obsessions. The 19th century produced some of the finest literature to date: Edgar A. Poe, Christina Rosetti, John Keats. I haven't come across a modern author yet who can rival the Romantics in terms of sophistication and culture.

I kinda/sorta had a supernatural thriller/horror/mystery novel going, but my computer crashed and I lost everything. That'll teach me to keep my hard drive backed up. Shame on me.

"A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is ultimately to be at peace with himself.
What a man can be, he must be.
" Abraham Maslow, 1968

That's so annoying Jessabel! The same thing happened to me. I wasn't working on anything at the time, but it was all my old writing from when I was younger, which would've been nice to read again - cringey, but nice. All gone :(

My problem is that, I have this awesome story in my head but it doesnt always transfer onto paper the way i want it to... Its like a picture, a thousand words can describe it and i just have to pick the right ones- but there are so many ways and it just takes longer than my patience has time for.

Another thing that doesnt help is that I tend to write scenes that pop into my head rather than just start from the beginning to end but then I'm left with all these pieces that i have to knit together... like a book quilt. And another thing that I do that frustrates myself is that I dont always know which persona, like first or third person to use... so it again takes time to decide and a lot of editing and rewriting things.

But music, especially the songs that share similar storys or feelings my characters have is a big inspiration for me. Often when i hear certain songs, I cant help but think of my stories and want to write them. As for motivation. I need a lot. Often if i just get a scene out of my head and on paper and i like it, i either quit there or i am so inspired to continue. But i do hope that someday, someday I will finish the one book that has been with me for years in developement... its getting there but still a ways to go. lol

Me too, I have this massive playlist full of songs that inspire me, but I never seem to work anything out since I only seem to imagine epic sword fights, and people blasting magic at each other XD
