Don't think I'm argueing because I really agree with you. When I started shoeing I would completely ignore the quarters because it would take about two swipes with the rasp to "waste" the quarters and then I'd have a hell of a time putting the shoe on. So If you were to try to keep the hoof totally level the chances are that the quarters would still be relieved if that's what you want.
