my husband was doing farrier work and never had time to do mine. so I got a hoofjack and he snickered. til his back was sore. then I couldn't find it one day--guess where it HIS pickup? argh! I very much like the one linked from ebay tho., i'd buy that one instead of what I got. i find the hoof holder part is almost too deep, sometimes I find it hard to rasp across without getting the head of the hoof jack rasped too. and I hate that its a pain to switch heads, and that there isn't a way to keep tools handy. the brand I have is a "hoof It" grand idea but other designs/models are better IMHO

In my opinion, a hoof jack is worth its weight in gold. I have had mine for over 10 years and its still in great shape. I originally purchased it for a horse that would panic when his front feet were placed between my legs so I used it on fronts and back with him. I trimmed for customers for many years and used it on the hinds only, it takes less than 60 seconds for a horse to get it figured out and then they are super comfortable and so is my back! I bought one for a friend for his birthday, he has a draft that would put his weight on him. He loves it. If you are going to trim, your own or someone elses, its the best thing you could ever buy!!!
