You could also look at why the hooves are sensitive at this does not have to be a permanent condition. Sensitivity can be caused by diet (too much sugar and starch or incorrect mineral balance) or over trimming. I would check the diet and give the horse a chance to grow less sensitive hooves and just boot as necessary.

Thanks for the advice people. I am trying to switch him from shoes to barefoot but in the process it seems like he is hurting because his feet are so sensitive. Is there anything I can feed him that will benefit his feet?

You really need to look into possible metabolic issues maybe going on with your horse. My horse was super foot sore this spring. He ended up with laminitis and he also is IR.

My boy is still battling the laminitis its improving but its a slow process. Could look into the supplement heiro might help with the sore feet. Iam currently using it and have seen results so worth a try. Might help but might not every horse is diffrent.

If his feet are that unhealthy then he's likely to need more than lack of shoes to go well bare. I do believe that's one vital step in treating problems, but his feet have got to be healthy before they can start becoming stronger. Therefore boots or such are another vital step.
