Corrective shoeing.. Allan Trottier?

I have a few questions . Some of you may have seen my other thread about my 4 year old mares split hoof . It is slip all the way up and its just getting worse ! The lady who is currently boarding my mare is getting her farrier out (Allan Trottier.. We live in Penticton , BC) Is he any good ? I've lots of good things about him :) How much does he charge for corrective shoeing ? I will probably get corrective shoeing with borium nails on the bottom (Not sure if that's how you spell it..) Anyway , if she has corrective shoes on then it will stop her hoof from opening when she puts pressure , correct ? I was really hoping to start some light ground work with her over the winter then continue training in th spring but this hoof of hers is really affecting that :/ Also , if I just trim her up real good and keep trimmed on a schedule then get her shoes in the spring can I still do ground work ?
