So my friend just rescued a horse from some people and the horses hooves are terrible. One of the horses hooves is cracked all the way up to about an inch from the top or hairline. We are wondering what steps should we take help repair it? Should we seal it or have the horse shod? Or supplements maybe?
Our rescue mare was the same - infact she had 2 cracks such as this and the other two hooves were badly chipped with cracks part way up -- our farrier determined it was just the result of poor nutrition and lack of proper trimming. Sure enough almost 1 year later with proper care she has beautiful solid hooves. So definitely see what your farrier says they will know what the proper course of action is for this particular horse. Hopefully it's as easy to fix as ours was
