Our farrier says that we are wasting our money buying hoof supplements for our horses for two reasons
1) they have extraordinary hooves
2) hoof supplements don't work
He says good hooves are genetic.... supplements are worthless.
What do you think? Do you use a hoof supplement? Does it make a difference?
Also; Epona's front hooves are round:
But her back hooves are more pointed/flared:
Is this a draft thing? A hoof conformation thing? A weight issue?
Because Beau's hooves are not AS noticeably pointed in the back: so, not being up to par on hoof knowledge, is that a fat horse thing or do ALL horses' back hooves flare out and have a pointed shape? I never noticed before.
We are hesitant to stop the hoof supplement as our farrier suggested.... Epona's hooves are HUGE so I figured she could use a little extra help. Beau is a TB and we ALL know how bad their hooves can be, so he could use all the help he can get.... and I figured that since they are both barefoot, a hoof supplement would strengthen the hooves. Farrier says hoof supplements are worthless... They both have good hooves, and we don't want to mess it up by stopping the supplement if it really is working. Farrier says these horses just got lucky and the supplement did nothing.
If you use a hoof supplement, does it make a difference?
If you do not use a hoof supplement, why not?
