I like the advise to correct the foot barefoot first and then go back into shoes if needed. Let the foot "speak" to you this way with the help of a good barefoot trim.
After seeing the newer picture I think what is said is probably true. There is a permanent disfigurement caused by the injury that is now being stressed by an incorrect hoof shape.
BTW... It drives me crazy when a farrier doesn't make an appointment. I know sometimes they get behind schedule and can't make it but it gives us all a bad rep.
