Did a good qualified farrier trim them? Were they trimmed to short? And when he didn't improve did the vet come back out for a follow up?

The vet DID come out, actually.
She said it was because his feet grow to long, to quick. So they needed to be trimmed agressively. We did that.

Yes it is the same farrier we have had for along time, he found abscesses, and we are trying to fix them.

Well the abcesses are the problem. Do you have pictures of his feet?

I don't think his feet growing too quickly would make him lame. Color me suspicious about the vet and her diagnosis.

Just because a horse is lame doesn't mean it's his feet. Did your vet do an actual, all over lameness exam? A shoulder or stifle injury can cause lameness, as can back or neck issues.

Oh, so now it's abscesses, and not his feet growing too fast? That's an actual cause then, not a 'might be'.

She said his feet grow quickly and flat, which is making him walk on his heel to much. But then when the farrier came out he found holes in each foot, he said were abscess'.

I have seen a horse that was left without a trim for 6 months go lame because it most likely affected some tendons or the such. About two months after a good trim her limp was gone and no the owners did nothing other than the one trim. But key word is good trim. By a good farrier.

True Poppy, but the cause of the lameness was a pulled tendon in that case. Yes, the fact the horse wasn't trimmed in 6 months caused it, but I don't think that's the issue here.

Sounds like somebody's farrier doesn't know what they're doing if the horse is abscessed in 3 of 4 hooves. I know a farrier who RUINED a good horse because of crappy trimming.

Yes, I agree it is time for a different farrier, perhaps someone that knows how to properly trim?
