my mare blew an abscess out the hoof wall

I've had my TB for over 2 years now, she had fronts when I got her but I had my farrier pull them and she never had any issues. Anyway today I noticed she blew an abscess out the middle of her hoof on her back left. I couldn't get pics because I had my son with me but it's just a small area pretty much dead center of the hoof. She's not the slightest bit off on it but she's never had an abscess before and I'm a bit worried there is a problem. I've always heard abscesses drain from the point of least resistance, usually the coronary band or sole, so could it indicate a problem where it drained?
The farrier is scheduled to come out on Friday afternoon(she gets done every 6 weeks) but I e-mailed her to ask if she should be seen sooner. In the mean time I'm turning to you guys .
So should I be worried or is an abscess just something that happens every so often?

If this was an abscess, it's the first one I ever heard of coming out of an otherwise healthy wall.

I suspect this is from your horse bumping the coronary band. See, when there's trauma that doesn't cause a visible injury, it doesn't show up till the hoof grows down an inch or so.

-Did any gray liquid come out? Any evidence of drainage?

-Is there an oval horizontal hole?

I didn't think it was common for an abscess to blow out of the hoof wall. I'm not sure if there was any drainage as I didn't see her until hours later and someone had hosed it off, I believe there was drainage but I don't know what it looked like.

I found 2 pics on google that somewhat resemble her hoof.
It's not quite as bad as this Hole in the hoof-wall | Two horses
but a little worse then this. http://www.horseadvice.com/horse/messages/4/282548.jpg
