Need advice - when can he go out?

My horse had an absess which took a while to come to a head in the end the vet made a hole in his hoof to release the absess. I've been bandaging it everyday it's all cleaned up but obviously he's got a hole in his hoof.
When can he start going in the field again and how will I know when it's safe to stop using a dry poultice. I change it every single day and he's sound on all four legs. He's a 5 year old warmblood and is going stir crazy xx

Depends on the location of the hole, the severity, the turnout conditions and what the vet says. My horse had a small sole puncture. After daily treatment, I put a diaper on her hoof with duct tape and sent her out, right from the start. I checked her foot twice daily at first, then once a day.

^^^ Duct tape diaper boots are the way to go. Great for sole bruises, also.

His abcesses blew out at the cornet band so not to hard to keep clean. He's out on grass so doesn't really get dirty. Keeping them dry not even possible its been raining now for two days. Its healing despite being wet 24 /7 now. Only one day this week will be dry that's wedsnesday then back to raining for 2 or 3 more days.

My mare blew two abscesses. One front and one hind. We used a pultice and wrapped her up and let her go out right away. I'm not sure how long it took for them to heal, but not took long(: less than a month for sure

It's the hole I'm worried about. The abscess has completely gone. He's just left with a hole I can't see down it because of the angle of it so I don't know if it's healing fast or if there's proud flesh. He is now sound
