    Thanks barefoothooves, Loosie, Kitten_vale & honeysuga for all your help. I am still madly researching before my next farrier appointment. It looks like the shoes are a necessary for my old man so I will see if any suppliers in Australia offer a fit kit & or boots to lend to get the correct size. Thanks again :)

    Oh, didn't notice you were in Oz. Yes, they do offer 'fit kits' here. The other option I forgot to mention is if you can look up a hoof care practitioner who sells them, many have a large range to try.
