I'm reading a book about a fairly long journey made with horses in 1970. In it the author talks about using a penicillin ointment to treat seedy toe with a vets support and recommendation. This took place somewhere in one of the countries on the African continent.
I haven't been able to find any references to that on the net.
The book is a collection of daily diaries. There was a previous mention of using an oil type stuff which is not supposed to be good as it blocks off oxygen. I've not read anymore so far about the seedy toe, if it's still there, or what. If it is eventually mentioned again I'll post.
There's also a lot of talk about biliary fever which as it turns out is caused by a tick bite in South Africa. He does blood test at every vet stop to check and at the last one the vet injected berenil in case biliary recurred due to the fatigue of the horses.
The organisms can be either fungal or bacterial, so I guess if the invading organism was a gram positive bacteria, Penicillin would work
Pete covers both, by using his goo, which is made up of both athletes foot cream (anti fungal ) and triple antibiotic cream ( anti bacterial )
