Going to upload some pics tonight before and then tommorrow morning when my farrier comes out I will show you after. I am really interested what some of the farriers on here will have to say about his work. I got a new gelding about 4 days ago and he is in dire needs of a reshoeing. Seller didnt tell me how long it had been since last shoeing but I can tell its been a minute. Anyways I am just really interested to see how competent you others out there feel my farrier is :P
I am not going to be throwing anyones name around I am going to ask for a op on his work. I would never tell anyones personal business over the net. You will never know who my farrier is so no one is going to be upset by no means.
Wallee you never know. The horse world is a small world, for all that there are so many of us. If your farrier is a member of the forum, he might not take kindly to the comments that could come.
I'd love to post the same kind of thread and see it be a regular occurrence, but I wouldn't do it for fear I might lose the second best guy I have found so far. I know logic says there is nothing wrong in comparing notes, but this could place your farrier in an awkward position if another of his clients posted a name, or pointed out XYZ barn uses the same guy.
In our area their are only a handful of farriers, and they know each others work well.
Trust me, never ever bad mouth one farrier to another ****. It will get round.( Even if they do roll out of the truck with beer cans falling out around their feet.) It's their livelihood. You can get a rep as "one of THOSE owners." I know, I am "One of THOSE OWNERS" in our area. *shrugs* All I want is healthy hooves on Rascal.
Scratch that, post those hoof pictures. If your farrier is worth his salt he should be able to stand up to constructive criticism. If he is doing the job, then there is nothing to worry about, right?
Ha ha I will do that Rascaholic! My farm, My barn, My horse.... Dont trim them if ya dont want no one to see cause I do a lot of travelin! And hey what if he does great? We cant assume he will do bad. He has been trimming my horses for over a year and this will be the first he has shod for me so thats why I wanted a critique. The hoof is the life of a horse and I assure you I will make sure it is done right or find someone who can do it right ya know what I mean?
