So Miss Lacey definitely had an abscess in her left hind, right behind the frog. It must have blown out yesterday because I found it today and it was still gooky and gooey.
She was super dead lame a few weeks ago (I thought she was lame in front...but I'm not great at id-ing lameness beyond "oh man, she is LAME") but went sound again within a few days (without the "help" of any painkillers), so maybe she had another one blow out that I never saw...
ANYWAY, I put some ointment (tea tree oil+hydrocortizone - it's my go-to for small ouchies and fungal stuff) on the spot I found today but I'm not sure if I should do anything beyond that.
I know you generally soak and such for an abscess you know is coming out...but what do you do after it's out?
She's definitely sore on that foot (not short-striding or anything, just resting that foot when she has the option and being a little less willing to work from behind) but she was fine with me poking the spot and applying ointment.
Please forgive my ignorance - never had an abscess before.
