That'd be obvious, but what did he suggest? A cup of cement??
OP, without further info, who knows. But I do think it's important to protect horse's feet if/when necessary. I think hoof boots are the best option generally. Assuming it's not farrier error(that is the common cause of sore post trim IME), 2 possibilities that come to mind are perhaps the environment's changed recently - he lives in wet so feet are too soft for hard/rough, or perhaps he has 'sub clinical' laminitis.
If he's more sore after a recent trim, there is something wrong with the trimmer. Horse is supposed to walk away more comfy after a fresh trim since all the flares and stretched wall are gone, bars and quarters are relieved. Still wondering if trimmer is touching sole.
Diamond used to have really weak feet. *With my farrier's approval,* we just started walking her on gravel. Yup, up and down the gravel road. Feet cleaned before and after, thoroughly!!! But it really does help. 15 minutes, every other day, except for when you first start. Then it's just once every 3 days. But it was approved and suggested by a barefoot trimer, and DID help, with no absceses along the way.
SORRY!! I guess I should have said more. She also suggested maybe boots or just walk on the shoulder for a bit, and watch him for pain after. Of course pick him out. Posted via Mobile Device
