It's a nasty smell that will attract animals, it is not clean and who knows what the pork will do, it will get all over everything if you aren't careful, it could attract bacteria nasties from little critters. But primarily, remember that hooves are porous. You don't want anything to go into the horse that has unknown effects. It could effectively seal the hoof, not allowing proper moisture and air exchange.

I advise -- stay away from bacon grease.

Thank you NorthernMama, will disregard the idea all together then.. you know that MTG that I used for scratches smelled like bacon grease also..
