I do trim my horse. At first I did only hindquarters and now I do all for hooves. My father taught me.he started trimming because her front legs was terrible and shoeing didn't help her.

well im going to start learning. Im actually watching now and have bought some tools to keep her trimmed. A friend of mine is a barefoot trimmer so she will stop by and watch me to correct anything I happen to be doing wrong or what I can do better. Excited! :)

Good choice. I learned the same way. Certainly don't need to go to a farrier course to learn how to do a natural trim.

Too many owners know nothing at all about their horses' feet; I think learning the physics behind proper trimming and shoeing is an excellent idea for all horse owners.

As for doing trims themselves... the owner has to have a strong attention to detail, be willing to get proper training, and know when they're in over their head and need to call in a professional. Having an experienced trimmer as a friend is definitely a big plus, especially when you're starting with rescue horses whose feet are bad to start with!
