Because of massive flash floods, Calgary, including the famous Stampede Park is all underwater, not ankle deep water but waist high water. Our Prime Minister flew in from Ottawa today to survey the mess. The main highway going thro Canmore has washed out as the Highwood is also way above it's banks. The Stampede is scheduled for July 5, a mere two weeks away. Being an exCalgarian I know in my heart people will pull together and Stampede will happen.
The Mission / Roxboro Rd area where I used to live was under waist deep water. It was a river lot with an extra high embankment running across the back, obviously not high enough. The Elbow has begun to recede altho the Bow may be a few days yet. In the Saddle Dome the water was up to the 9th row.
I feel so sad for the residents of the city whose homes and livelihoods have been affected by this, the economic impact will be huge and if the Stampede is cancelled that will be yet another hit.
The folks out west are tough I know, but there is so much devastation there right now, they have a huge task ahead of them.
You bet your little butt we are going to still have the stampede! all of us were on the edge of our seats, but it's already started my friends! who's joining us!
