So I just finished drawing this draft horse! Any ideas on a background? I'm terrible at making backgrounds lifelike compared to the horses, though. Should I just shad the background?
Also, any tips on to make the horse look better? Thanks!
Looks good the only thing I can offer fro the horse it to take the pointy thing off its nose. And cos its a draught, put more feather to make its lower leg seem more bigger and have more bone.
Background: I reckon a nice mountain scene or even a beach.....
Ugh, I suck at backgrounds and therefore avoid them like the plague. I don't have much to offer in the way of backgrounds, but one thing I have learned to do "any" time I draw a full body shot is to at least draw some semblence of a ground or shadow beneath the horse so it doesn't look like it's just running on thin air.

Bahaha! ME, TOO! So I ended up just drawing some faint grass where the hoof is on the ground and some to show the shadow of his front hooves in the air. :)
