Help, where can I find references for my art? Also, see my mustang art.

Hi. I've got a website with cafepress shops and I'd love to do more gaited horse stuff. I used to ride them and loved it. Does anyone know where I can get decent reference pics of them in action? I don't actually draw the horse from them, I just need to get the leg positions right. I can't afford to go buy a bunch of books. Ironically all those years riding them, I never got a good picture of them in action!

Here's a sample of one of my pics. Not in my shops yet, I haven't decided where to put him. Thanks to all those Breyer models for 'posing' for me.

Maybe just google gaited horses? If you are just looking for leg positions, I don't think you would need to worry about copyrights. I love your artwork, by the way.

Try Deviantart and look in the stock section. I strongly discourage using pictures from google because you don't know who owns the copyright. Especially if you're planning on selling you'll need to check with the owner of the picture before you use it.

Hi. Thanks. Actually the tricky part is finding shots of a horse in the gait. Like I said, I don't actually use the photograph itself in the drawing or anything. When you see a photo (tweaked)) in the background they are all ones I took. I just need to study the leg positions of the fancy gaits. There are lots of horse shots with pics of trot, canter etc. so those are easy. Lots of books have them too. Even when I use Breyer horses to model I'm just referencing odd angles front view for instance. Too bad I don't know where I can get to a gaited show or something nearby. I'd just snap a few with the sports feature on the digital camera!
