I didn't get much time to do them, probably about five minutes for each. Right now
I'm working on drawing a stuffed elephant right now so. I'll have to bring my camera to class and post updates.
Charcoal is tried and true. Davinci, and other great masters used it a lot. It has a kind of "old" feel to it that I love. And, I am partial to renedering in black and white (tho I LOVE color) because it reduces the image to the basics; form, line , light and composition.
I really like that buckle. YOu could set up a saddle or a bridle and do a stilllife. That would be cool!
Are you using vine charcoal or the more compressed stuff? You've seen the stuff that Flintlock does? It is masterful! I think when you get it finished you need to spray a fixative on it or you will lose it. And you have a gum eraser?
Guess you'll have to go to the art store; next best thing to going to the tack store!
Oh, I guess the bar stuff. Vine charcoal is good for super quick sketches but you cannot get dark out of it. However, you can get some nice, light and flowing lines. Try them both.
Brings back memories of artschool. We did many hundreds of quick sketches of a nude model with vine charcoal, ripped it off the pad and on to the next one., two or three minutes each. You didn't have time to think or worry, just draw. I miss that. Too much thinking in what I am doing now. Too slow and carefull. But satisfying in another way, when i really looks like what I am drawing.
Sorry, I digress.
Yes it is an elephant . We had to all bring stuffies and put them on the table and draw them. There's an elephant, a rabbit, two bears, and a tiny bit of a hippo in the lower left corner.
