    Need help with my art

I've always been into drawing things, animals especially and I feel that my ability to draw is OK.
I'm doing GCSE art in school and my first page of coursework I'm not terribly pleased with, I used acrylic paints for a portrait of a friends horse and it turned out terrible. My art teacher isn't a great teacher as such, he just does my art for me but I would rather be taught how to do it myself.
I was hoping someone on here could help me along?

Here are some pictures of my first art page: http://emob975.photobucket.com/albums/ae236/boxers101/cGV1XzIwMTIxMTEwXzYyLmpwZw.jpg

    You're doing quite well.

References are the key, and they go hand in hand with practice. If I were you, I'd gather up a collection of high-resolution photographs with good shadows and highlights and draw draw draw. Don't spend too much time on them, give yourself maybe 10 minutes on each. Also, make sure you cover lots of angles. My mistake is that when I draw, I always draw profile, so my pictures always lack the realistic, 3D feeling.

There are much better artists on here than me though, so I'll hand you over to them xD

Your teacher really doesn't sound helpful. You need my teacher, he made us do everything ourselves and would guide us the whole way through.

It's always better if you can upload the photos directly.
