The barn I board at great place and I love riding and being there but theres a few things that make me so angry. I just needed to get this off my chest.
I'll show the B.O possible buys for my next horse, she will take a look at one picture and completely tear the horse to shreds. She points out things that aren't even there. She said she saw Cushing's in one of the horses just by a picture. There's no way, by a picture you could tell that. But that's kind of besides the point.
She has two horses there that are lame as could be. One of the horses, has too many issues to count. When they first got him we was ridable but with a minor shoulder problem, but could still be used as flatwork, they decided to start jumping him. Any one with COMMON knowledge knows not to jump a horse with shoulder problems, let alone any problems at all. So he is gradually getting worse. He's so skinny but eats a ton, he is 100% clubfooted, he can't straiten his left out and its completely over at the knee. He uses him hind and to control himself. He barely can put any weight on his front legs. I quote the B.O on this "I can only trim his hooves if he's laying down". *SMH* Get a vet, and a real farrier who is trained and went to come schooling to trim them. If the horse is too weak to even get it's hooves trimmed without falling over, theres obviously something wrong. Get a vet to sedate the horse to trim the hooves.
Another horse there is developing founder and they refuse to stop it before it get's worse. Every time they see him they say "he's getting so much better", just to put themselves at ease. But, he's getting worse. Nothing like that gets better when you do nothing to fix it. Earlier last year one of the horses passed away from founder, he was only 9 years old. They RODE him while he was in the worst shape of his life. I hate seeing this happen, it disgusts me.
They get A LOT of money every week from lessons and board. But seeing the problems arising in a lot of the horses now they continue doing lessons and putting the lesson horses first before all the other horses. I mean, they could at least take a few weeks off lessons to get the horses that actually need attention and proper care. They have WAY enough money to pay for surgery or anything else that would help the horses that need it.
I'm sorry for my ranting but I find this utterly disgusting. Share your input and how to deal with this without blowing up. Thanks so much!(:
