House insurance with Boarders in BC, Canada

So I have been boarding at a fabulous place which I love and am the only boarder on the property. It is about four or five acres. Anyway their insurance adjuster told the BO that their insurance is going to go up because I board there. I knew there had been some changes to insurance being the HCBC will now cover the horse owner but then will go after the owners house insurance to cover any claims. Anyhow the BO didn't know how much it is going to go up, and I am willing to pay more in board if it isn't too much more each month. Anyone have an estimate on how much more insurance might be?? I really don't want to leave this place but if it thousands more I might have to.

It's crazy but if you were just staying there, there'd likely be no insurance increase. But the minute money changes hands the insurance companies want to get their share.

Yeah the BO mentioned the only way around it was sell both my horses to her for $10. I just don't feel comfortable with that though....so much can go wrong.

I have never heard anything like this before. It sounds to me like they are trying to make an excuse to get more money from you. All they would need to do is become AEF members to have insurance on everything and that only costs $50.

But honestly I call BS on this situation.

Thanks My2Geldings. I went and spoke directly to an insurance agent today and it is truthful, and I know people who own their own properties and they know it is the way it is. The insurance agent didn't think that it would be anymore than about $50 a year more on their insurance and being that I self board and the BO have no contact with my horses it will be probably minimal. Anyway, I'm just waiting to hear back.

Yes that's exactly it. If it was "their" horses there would be no increase apparently. But being I'm boarding if I have a claim against my horse insurance, my insurance company will go after house insurance to recoup the payout. Anyway, I'm not too worried as I was told it will probably be minimal.
