Not sure if it's me or my barn has changed

Background: I've boarded at this barn on Cape Cod for 11 years. For the first 5 to 6 years it was a blast. I trailride and we are adjacent to 2000 acres of fabulous trails. In those days there were lots of other adults and always someone to ride with. It felt like family away from home and I always felt renewed after spending time there with my horse. But slowly, the barn has become a teenage jumping barn. (Jumping is the owner's specialty. Still a few adults but only one other person I can trail with. If she's busy, I don't get to ride as I don't go out alone. The entire focus is shifting to jumping for teens and lessons for young kids. They, the jumpers, have definitely formed their own bond as a group and somedays I go there and there's just no connection to be made. I'm getting bored as the ring I ride in is badly in need to repair - tree roots above ground and tripping horses. The other ring is for jumping and I don't jump. I hate to leave this barn but honestly, I'm starting to look at a western pleasure barn with more adults and trailriders. For $800 a month I'd like to think the rings would be better maintained and more diversified programs offered. I like new challenges and riding has become kinda flat in terms of what is offered at this barn. It's a first rate facility, clean and the horses are well cared for, BUT... Change is hard but I guess I just need to accept that circumstances change and move on. Stil, change is hard! Em

Why can't you go out alone?

And yes, for $800 a month, I would most definitely be at a place I like. It sounds like a lovely place, but if you're paying that and aren't satisfied with the service you're receiving, I'd be up and out of there.

$800 a month would make a house payment here. That is steep. Anyways, if you like to trail with others and this place isn't suiting your needs, scout out another that does. When checking out other places, tell them what you are looking for, if they can't fill your requirements, maybe they can suggest a barn that can.

Ya, $800 is ALOT of money but pretty standard in the Northeast. Still, it's never far from my mind, how much I pay for my love of my horse. To answer the first responder, I can't really ride out alone. Wish I could but my horse is a follower and hates being out by himself. We can go for short distances but that's it. The barn IS fabulous - I just think conditions have changed, people who ride there have come and gone and I guess I need to look for something that will better suit my needs.
But I LOVE this site - someone always responds and connects to me.

I just trail ride, too & don't go out alone anymore. $800 is way more than my house payment & my 2 horses are in my back yard-so I guess I live here for free! & this is sunny So CAl! I think it may be time to make some inquires around & find some compatible co-boarders so you can get back to enjoying riding! Wishing you the best!
