Potential new barn

I finally found a new place where I'd like to move my horse. It's less drive time and fewer miles. There are only 8-9 horses there with plenty of pasture space. There's an indoor and outdoor arena, plus a round pen. It seems like a great place.

My husband, daughter, and I looked at the place a couple of weeks ago. I then went back and looked at it again after work (to figure out the actual drive time from work) last Friday. I sent a text to the BO on Monday and asked if she could email me the boarding contract (she forgot when I was there the first time and her daughter showed me around the second time) to look at and all that good stuff. She said she could and asked for my email address. I gave it to her and checked that it was correct twice before I sent the text. I never heard anything from her after that. I sent her a message on FB on Wednesday evening (phone was charging and almost dead, and she's active on FB) asking if she'd had a chance to email the boarding contract. I didn't know if maybe I'd missed it or she sent it, but it didn't get to me. I haven't heard anything from her. Should I call this evening (8:45pm) or maybe tomorrow morning and ask? Is that too much?

The reason I want to look at it first is because there are only 2 days left in the month and I'd like to move him on Oct. 1 - that means giving notice Sept 1 at the current barn. I want to look at the contract to make sure that I really want to move there and that there won't be any surprises before I give my notice where I am now.

    What should I do?

I'd always follow up with a phone call.. horse professionals are always busy and sometimes forget.

Seeing as it's likely the 2nd there, how did it go?

I ended up calling and finally spoke to the BO today.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to leave my 30 day notice and if I should move the second weekend of October rather than the previous weekend since it's already the going on the third day of the month.

Leaving my notice in person, either written or face to face, is difficult because I'm not at the barn often and when I am there, she usually isn't. Not to mention it's an hour from work and not on my way to anywhere else, like home.

Does the current BO have email and/or fax? If so, perhaps send it off and follow up with phone call to confirm receipt???

No, neither. She has Facebook, but that seems pretty uncool, even for someone who hates the phone.

Well, I guess it's the proverbial rock and a hard place - don't suppose somebody could deliver on your behalf? How much would it be to use a courier service? That would certainly be a time saver and you wouldn't be spending on gas to make a special trip.

Phone call or private pm in facebook. A private message in fb is similar to email. Unless your contract states the method that must be used to cancel board, I would PM in facebook and follow up with a phone call.

Yeah, I was pretty annoyed when I was out there on Sunday and she wasn't around again. I wanted to tell her then so I could just talk to her in person.

I don't believe there's anything specified for method other than giving 30 days notice.
Should I plan on moving the weekend of October 5/6 rather than September 28/29 since I'm giving my notice to the BO on the 3rd?
It's okay to send a message over FB then? I won't be sending a message tonight since I'm already lying in bed and it's awfully late here.
I would send a private message in facebook. Have you done this before? It won't show on her wall or newsfeed.

Other than cheating yourself a few days, you can move out in september. Frankly, you could move out a week after giving notice. It is about a month's board, not how long the horse stays on the property. As long as she has the board payment and knows she will no longer get future payments from you, you can move out whenever you want.

If you want to stay until the first weekend in October to avoid overlap, you could ask her if the Saturday would be okay to avoid taking time off work and offer to pay a daily pro-ration for feed and care.

I would recommend you move in september so your new monthly board is consistent and you don't have to prorate that month or work out funky plans to accommodate the late move in.
