Hello,
I am considering moving to a new barn that looks great but.....the boarding contract is for six months, anotherwords if I leave before then I still owe six months board. Is this common or should it raise a red flag?
Thanks!

If that's how the contract's worded and you sign it, then yes, you're agreeing to pay them for 6 months worth of board even if you only stay for 3.

You may have misunderstood the actual terms though, as most places only require 30 days notice if you find another boarding situation. I'd get that cleared up by talking with the BO, and looking over the contract very carefully.

I'd never agree to the first set of terms.

I wouldn't sign and I wouldn't ask a boarder to sign a 6 month committment. If the contract is just to say that they won't raise your board for 6 months, not a 6 month committment, then I'd be ok, but just like if you don't like them after you get there, then they are stuck with you if they don't like you. Not a good way to keep only happy clients, IMO.
