So I went to move my horse to a new barn today. The reason I left my old barn was because of the negligence of the horses and the abuse when it comes to riding (having to teach 4 lessons a day in the hot sun, being ridden lame, riders having no boundaries). I have found a private barn who was thrilled to have me board out there, so today I went to pick up my pony and take her. Unfortunately, the barn owner found out and had haltered my horse and was dragging her around when we showed up, screaming that she wouldn't let us have her until we paid board for August. When we purchased her, we agreed that with the purchase price, we would pay for board and lessons for July. We also agreed that board and lessons for August would be paid by August 1st. Not wanting to cause problems, we planned on just letting her keep the board and lesson fee for July to keep the peace and just take our pony and go. However, she wouldn't even let us near her. She was crazy and hysterical. She told the lady who was helping us transport our pony that she was trespassing. One of the girls I ride with happened to be there, and she kept shouting at her to call 911. It was absolutely ridiculous. We finally just gave her the money to get the horse out of there. We plan on getting the money back in court, but I am just wondering what other legal actions we have. This was completely uncalled for. I'm so frustrated right now, and just wish there was something I could do. This is the first barn I ever rode at, and while I learned a lot, a lot of it was what not to do once I have my own barn. I feel like such an idiot for letting her take advantage of me all these years, it just wasn't until the events recently that I finally realized I had to get out. Thank you so much for your feedback, I appreciate it. Also, if anyone else has had any experience with situations like this, I would love to know!
