    Hmmm, she could barely pay for her 3 horses, how can she board and pay for 6? Very odd..... Always get something in writing, he said she said wont hold up in court, but something in writing will and protect you. Water under the bridge now, " WE live, we learn." Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

    IMHO, this isn't a warning to barn owners about crooked horse owners, it's a lesson in "get a contract".

    If you'd had a contract in the first place and if your BIL had gotten a bill of sale for the breeding and vet costs on the pregnant mares, then you wouldn't be in this pickle.

    I am sorry that you had such a bad experience, but it isn't all on her.
