Okay so I'm really jumping the gun here but the excitement is overwhelming!
I have an Arabian foal due in 4 months and I'm trying to get some name ideas. I won't be naming the foal until after it's born because I want a name that reflects his/her personality. I don't want something corny, it has to be somewhat exotic and unique.
For all you Arabian breeders, how do you name your babies? I would really like to find an Arabic name that actually has a correct meaning but many of the websites I've looked at are nothing I would name a foal, lol.
Also...I know there's no way of predicting color, but what is your guess? Black, bay, chestnut?
As far as your color possibilities, you will have either a bay, black or chestnut. This could be narrowed down if you know the stallion's black status and the mare's agouti status. If the stallion is Ee for black and the mare is Aa for agouti, you can get black, bay or chestnut. But if the stallion is EE and/or the mare is AA or aa, your choices are more limited Posted via Mobile Device
Unfortunately I do not know the sire's black status as this is his first foal. Not sure of Mom's agouti status either...so I guess its a true guess! I have no preferences in color or sex, as long as its a healthy baby I'm happy!
This is a really old fashioned idea I will admit, but you might go to your local library and see what is available pertaining to Arabia, Egypt, that area. Or a book translating that language into English.
That's a good idea. Also, I thought maybe choosing a name that pertained to the sire and grandsire. The grandsire (Zambizy) is named after an African river and the sire (Zaire) is named after an African country. I thought maybe an African mountain, country, or river might be cool, or it could be really corny...thoughts?
I also thought if it were a black filly maybe "Black Velvet" after the dam Ma Hijo Velvet...however a cheap alcohol isn't exactly what I want my foal named after either ;-)
I'm no good at naming, took forever to come up with my colt's name. I have a book with Arabic horse names that helped. I finally settled on KLD Kadar. The initials are his sire's name. Kadar meaning powerful or something along that line (can't remember at the moment)! My breeder (and instructor/friend) said that if you put one of the parent's initials before the name you choose, then you'd be almost 100% sure of getting the name you wanted on the registration papers.
At least 4 months until you can post a photo?? Can't wait to see the little baby! Congrats!
I see...well that does me no good seeing how the stallion's name is one word lol. Maybe I could use the mare's and have it be MHV. I was playing around with some fun, less exotic names today and came up with these few.
Filly
MHV Velocity or MHV Velocyty
Aaleyah "the greatest gift of god"
Adira "strong"
Fayza "successful/winner"
Zafirah "victory"
Colt or Filly
Zambia (African country), Zambya, or Zambyah
Colt
Ayaan "gift of god"
Omir "full of life and prosperity"
I tend to use both sire and dam's names - for example I had a stallion (Khoda - Khemosabi bred) and my mare Rythm - the foal was named Dance Khode, or Khode for short.
I have no idea about anything in Africa though, expect for guns, elephants, and lions. LOL
I thought about using both sire & dam's name...maybe I will...allows more room for creativity
PLEASE feel free to share any names that you can think of...the more the merrier and in the end it will all come down to the individual foal anyways. Just brainstorming!
