A lot of things come into factor.
Has the mare has had foals before?
Is the mare in good physical shape?
Does she have any medical problems?
Does the mare have any previous injuries that could result in complications from carrying the foal, or delivering it?

There are a lot of things to look at. Can you cover all the expenses of a vet coming out to check her. Can you financially support 2 horses once the foal is born? Can you cover the costs of the mare is she has any complications with delivery?

There are many books out on caring for a broodmare. I would suggest also reading up information on the web.

    Good Luck.

I would go get a breeding check done by your vet and see if her vulva can handle a foal. If she hasn't been bred in a while, she might be hard to settle, so start around Feb. To breed, that way if she settles you will have a Jan foal, if she doesn't you can keep trying until May/June. I'd say if the vet says she's OK, go for it!! But remember that even really well bred horses are selling dirt cheap right now(if they sell at all), so reconsider breeding if you plan to sell. If you're going to keep the foal whether its a filly/colt, then go for it!
