Well. I just spent Sunday at a horse expo in my home town - Great weekend :] There was a breed village and some friends of mine were running a stand for Australian Stock Horses.
Dad was chatting to one of the ladies, A, who has her own stud.
Well, she offered to breed me a foal if I so choose... Wow, such a generous offer.
She has a amre that she would like to put in foal and she would love it if she had a buyer from the beggining.
Of course this depends on a lot of factors - If I like the mare (She has some lovely mares and some not so lovely mares), if I get to choose the stallion as I personally don't like the style of her stallion (Nice horse, but not my 'type'), etc.
But if it all pans out... It will be a great opportunity. Breeding a foal has been on my mind since I found the cremello mare that I LOVE but can't afford, however we don't have the facilites and I don't have the knowledge to do it right. This would take care of that part of the equation - A has loads of experience breeding and has produced some lovely youngstock, and has the facilities while not living too far away. I could *hopefully* get out there for the birth and get out a fair bit to do the handling etc. of the foal until it is old enough to come live with us.
It would work out well because I had always planned to sell Bundy - but I don't want to yet. 3 or 4 years would be enough time to accomplish what I want to with Bund and then I could sell him on when the baby is ready to start.
Of course if the above things don't pan out it may not happen - But boy is it an exciting idea! She does have one mare that I absolutely adore - But I have no idea if this is the mare she had in mind as she is currently getting some ridden show experience on her.
Just wanted to share my *possible* excitement!
