Cloning Stallions?

This kind of blew me away...though it makes sense that the breeding industry would definitely be interested in cloning technology. I'm just kind of behind the times.

That is insane. That is very sad they are doing this now. I hope the costs of it getting done will keep and prevent others from doing the same thing.

I think there are like 5 Chic O'lenas or something like that.

They say that because they use skin cells in the cloning that some of the DNA is set "off" because the skin doesn't require certain "codes" in the DNA to be made and to function. So the original clone isn't quite right. Also it's success depends somewhat on the traits of the "donor" embryo and then the mother. As well as the training and feed and all those other variables.

They say that it's a lot safer than just relying on old frozen semen from AI and that the foals sired by the clones won't have the problems that the clones do with the DNA making some things not work quite perfectly.

It's very interesting though especailly for breeding that line. However I don't know if it's fair to the clones becuase if they aren't "quite right" physically and mentally then it just seems kinda cruel.

I would never get a clone horse or foals or breed a horse to the clone horse or buy a clone horse, I think it unfair to the mother natures, I think every animals should be it own self and if an animals die I think it should never be clone to make another of copy of that animals that just die. I really wish that they should stop cloning!!!

Cloning is wrongon many levels. The most, you will get is perfect copy of the body. The heart and try ain't in the genes.

Little Peppy heart and try by the ton. Before one cuttung, he was hit be a bull in the loading shute, and he still when on to win that night.

Man O' War was another. He hated for any horse to be in front of him on the track. (I think I read that some where).

I agree as well. I also appreciate what Kentucky posted. Things have been laid out a certain way and cloning to me is going against the natural cycle of life. Cloning animals is asking for problems and it's a matter of time before horrandous things happen.

I think its realy wrong for breeing stock . . . If your breeding and trying to get a high level competive horse and the stallion or mare is a clone they will have both had diffrent records and personality. Gentics wont always give your horse the personality or drive to be competive.

Charmayne James cloned Scamper (Her Barrel Horse) as well. I really don't agree with cloning and think it could get out of hand really fast. It just brings up too many other issues when it comes to athlete horses. I dunno...it just seems wrong. Maybe I'm old fashioned. =/
