Could She Be Close?

So we bought a mini mare this weekend that they claim she was bred in March 2012. Well they bought her from a sale 7 weeks ago. After bringing her home and looking at her she looks further along than we first thought. She was suppose to be bred to a 33" black and white stallion.

I don't think she'll go until next April. Have you done this before?

Is she in fact bred at all? Many Minis appear pregnant, because they have huge pot-bellies if not fed correctly. That girl also looks as though she has waaaay more hay there, than is correct for one feeding. What did the vet think?

It's too bad that so many Minis are being bred, willy-nilly. Thousands now going unsold, ending up in auctions and even top quality horses with show records, are almost being given away.

We bought her this way. I did not breed her. We have a vet appointment next friday to have her ultrasounded. I did not post this on here to be ridiculed about this. Just wanted another opinion before next friday. She is on restricted hay. That was her ration for the day. She is on 24/7 turnout in a dirt paddock. I have 4 mini horses and have the experience with foaling them out.

And I am not asking how to raise a mini , just if she looks pregnant or not.

I wasn't meaning to and did not ridicule you in any way and I gathered that you had not bred her yourself. Certainly I made mention of the large quantity of food down for her. That is why I asked if she was indeed pregnant at all, since many Minis are over fed and get large bellies (making them appear pregnant) easily. Even the males, can look like your mare, if given too much food and are not exercised enough.

Is she registered with either of the registries? If so, you will be able to trace her pedigree, pretty reliably. Do you know the names of her sire and dam?
