Smile Does she look pregnant?

So..many have you might have seen the forum spamming with Raggedy Anne, my new rescue...Bad news for you, theres more coming :P Does she look pregnant to you? We aren't sure if she would keep her "broodmare belly" even when she got this underweight (her hip bones, backbones, and the top of her ribs are showing) and I just wanted another opinion..We need to build a better fence if there's going to be some little hooves trotting around (and I'm not talking about elk hooves, either ;) )So, based on what the pictures look like...what do you think? Also, she was exposed to two stallions on the farm where she was. I had no control of that, so don't get all grumpy.

Also, sorry for the Annie spam ^^; Be excpecting a foaling thread if she is pregnant!

There is no way to tell by looking at a mare to know if she is pregnant or not unless you see feet on the way out. Your best bet is to call a vet and have her palpated and/or ultrasounded to verify one way or the other. As well as to do a general check over and fecal count as bellys can also be caused by a heavy work load...

Seeing as you know she has been exposed then you should get her checked out, so you can plan the next few months for her best advantage. Let us know what the vet says

@NdAppy, yea I know, but we can't do anything until we see her (hopefully sometime today) and all the other mares were skin and bones, so we didn't know if she just kept her belly or is pregnant or what. I agree with you guys both :)

You can get a better guess by looking at her from directly behind. Fat horses tend to be big underneath, pregnant ones will be wide beyond the hips.

I think she looks like it or she is wormy but I am thinking more prego. The others are right. No way to tell for sure unless she is tested. I am really thinking she is though. I have a rescue who is prego as well but at least they got her sooner before she was later in her pregnancy and got good weight on her now that she is getting closer to having her baby. Your mare is cute glad she is in better hands now.

That's not always true PHM. I have two nonpregnant mares that I could easily make you believe they are ready to foal any day.
FGRanch, smrobs and tabasco like this.

I hope Speedracer has a little filly! Kidding aside, this mare absolutely must be seen by a vet, if she is in foal she is going to need prenatal vaccines and special care. Even if she isn't in foal, she has been neglected and will more than likely need a float and a deworming program otherwise the money you spend feeding her will not be doing her much good. Keep us updated!

Thanks, Ambomoonu! I'm so excited to see her today! Then I'll take better pics, hopefully brush her, and maybe get some more info about her possible pregnancy :)
