Getting a foal

Hi guys I might get a 1 year old this spring, and he would be hauled with me to my barrel races any when old enough trained then trained to barrel race. Just wondering your thoughts on foals going to barrel races, and standing at the trailer.

I've heard of people doing this before but I would take him a few times ontrial and stay with him, just until he gets accustom to the noise and activity. Don't take him if you plan on riding until you know he will be safe when left alone.
I knew a lady a long while ago who would take her mare to gymkhanas and minor rodeos when she had a foal at side and simply leave the foal back at the trailer, but the mare was used to this and she had a corral to keep the foal in.

I brought my mare and her filly to races starting when Wrecker was 1 month old. She hopped in the trailer ready to go, so we took her. She went a few more times over the summer, including when she was 4 months old without mommy.

I never left her alone at the trailer, but she stood tied like a pro, never pulled back or threw a hissy fit. She stood with either mommy or another horse (our gelding) and was great.

At 1 year old, that's not a foal. And there should be no reason why he couldnt be hauled to shows and stand at the trailer all day.
