Hips out after foaling

My mare foaled out four months ago and I just got her back after weaning completed. However, since I got her back she's been off left hind while traveling to the right at the trot. I communicated with a chiropractor and he said something about their ligaments being stretched out and takes up to 6 months post-foaling for them to snap back in place. She has completely lost her topline and now just her spine shows and muscles are atrophied on either side of spine.
How shall I proceed? Ie: work load, padding under saddle, etc. I would like to hear others with real experience with this who can share experiences of what worked and what didn't..all aspects of getting her back into shape. Chiro didn't want to do anything until she had built more muscle up first but I don't want to work her with her hip out and compound the problem.

My girl looked really horrid while she was nursing her filly. She lost a lot of weight just before the filly was born (long story), and had a terrible time gaining it back. Her topline was hiddeous - she was really skinny - her backbone stuck up like the edge of a razor.

I changed her over to a higher fat feed (should have had her on it to begin with) along with alfalfa pellets and beet pulp. She has been slowly gaining weight - her biggest improvements began after we power packed her with Panacure. It got rid of her huge belly and her top line is now looking much better.

She still needs a LOT of work, but I've been able to ride her lightly, and lots of trotting in the round pen. Vet is quite pleased with her - all of our horses lost weight this summer due to the heat, but they've pretty well bounced back now that the weather has cooled off. We had the vet out because we thought something was wrong in the herd (but it was just the heat.)
