    If worst comes to worst, there's also the possibility of a tarp, tied over the top of the fence (I'm assuming that the fence is 3 1/2-4 ft tall) in a corner. Not extremely durable, but workable if only for shade.

    The easiest thing would be to bring the foal home first and leave momma where she is. Then after about a month bring baby home.

    They have weaning halters for foals I don't know if they have them for minis or not but the halter has nubs on the the sides so they hit the mom and she gets irritated not hurt and will wean the foal naturally, I saw them in the Valley Vet catalog I have never used one but it might be worth a try.
