Has anyone here imported semen from a stallion, say from England to USA? I was just wondering how it worked for you and what did you have to go through to get it done?
Very true. And frozen semen would require special packing and the transport fees would be high. I am just curious if there is a lot of nonsense to go through.
It's not that complicated. Most of the warmblood breeding is done by chilled or frozen semen, whether from interstate or overseas. The semen is collected and frozen in a specialised container, flown to your local airport, and you collect it from there and take it straight to your vet to AI the mare.
The only downfall is that maiden mares don't tend to take very well, and you'll want to pick a stallion with a very good sperm count and mobility otherwise it is a lot of money for no foal.
