We have 2, both were given to us earlier this year and we are trying to get them used humans. They were turned out with 20 other mares and 1 stud and just ran free. This was the was it was for years ( since I was a little girl) the owner died and his son had no desire to continue this. The Stallion is a great -great grand son of Colonel Freckles, all mares are AQHA and are sought after around here for cutting and roping. But, there was no human contact with the mares, the stud was as tame as a puppy ( to me this is as backwards as it gets!) but the mares were turned out on 259 acres and never really thought of unless they were sick or needed to pull the foal to wean. They never saw a farrier. So we have had our hands full for these last few months.
This is Sage, she is 11 years old, palomino AQHA. Unfortunately, we just realized a few weeks ago that she was bred back after she had Cactus, so she is due the first part of November last part of October. She is so big now, I don't know how she is going to hold out that long. She does let us groom her. We are working on the halter.
This is Cactus, Sages filly, she is about 5 months old in this pic.
This is Lady, she is 3 years old. That is her colt, Cowboy, he made his appearance May 2. She is not bred back. After Cowboy is weaned we are going to send her off for training. She will not let us get close to her. We are just now able to hold her feed bucket while she eats out of it.
Well that is our girls and their babies, we sure do love them and are glad we were able to give them a new home and a new life. Posted via Mobile Device
