Patches is an American Shetland pony bred to our stallion Feature. We are so excited to see this foal!
I think Patches may have another week but we go ahead and put them on cam early just to be sure we don't miss the foaling.
Please be aware that if a foaling goes wrong we will shut the cam off unless we think we can resolve it quickly. Pulling a foal is never a pretty picture and we have a lot of kids that watch our cam so feel its best to shut it off should something go awry.
If you ever think you see a mare in labor please don't hesitate to call or call collect. We watch but of course we can't watch every minute.
Also please feel free to ask questions such as "why do you..." But please don't second guess how we foal out our mares. Every farm has their own way of doing things and this is our way. We do not put straw down until after the foal is born. So please do not worry. We are there to dry the foal off and then we completely strip the stall and lay down hay/straw. This works better for us then having to strip a stall soaked with amnio fluid.
Patches will be in the stall about 7 pm ohio time. If you could send a few happy thoughts for an easy foaling and healthy foal it would sure be appreciated. Even though we have been doing this for years I still get pretty nervous
