    Magic's Foaling Thread due 5/15/13

Alright I'm starting this early because I'm just too freaking excited. We bred our wonderful mare last year and had far more problems then we expected. We did not think that she took because she went into heat a couple more times. Vet we were using gave us the verbal on the phone that no reason to come out if she had gone into heat a couple times she wasn't pregnant. Well we changed vets and I had her come out to give our horses a once over in Feb and it turns out WE ARE HAVING A BABY! So I waited a month and now I'm starting my thread.

I have attached pictures of my mare taken in early fall she is the bay and of the stallion he is the black. I am hoping for a colt and super curious about what color the baby is going to be. Magic's sire was a bay tobiano like she is, her mother was a solid chestnut. The studs sire was a black tobiano (not sure about the mother) and he is homozygous for the tobiano. He also was tested for the red factor and is ee(I think I got that right? Not familiar with color genetics). He has about 20 foals on the ground one palomino and 3 chestnuts everyone else looks just like daddy and all foals are super loud. I have no idea about Magic. But my guess is a bay tobiano colt.

I forgot to put pictures of her now up, so silly today

So here is what she looked like last week. I moved her from the lower barn into the upper one because we had some wind damage to the fencing (record breaking windfalls knocking over trees and everything. We use electric fencing (only thing that she respects) and can't put new stuff up until it thaws. So we will enclose the stall she is standing in and put more bedding down in april for now it's been unseasonably warm and she doesn't seem to mind having a a little open lean too even if I do. Also attached another picture of the stallion I had on my computer.

In these pictures she is 263 days so they are a little old but she hasn't grown much in the last couple weeks.

We are just outside of Wasilla.

Oh and thanks for calling my mare beautiful. You should see her at shows she gets all puffed out like a stallion it's is hilarious. Tons and tons of presence now if only her neck was a bit longer and she could move a little better we'd be right on track for the dressage ring...oh well extreme trail will have to do.

For color genetics, ee is red (chestnut/sorrel all offspring recieve a red gene), Ee is heterozygous black (black is dominant over red, base coat is black 50% chance to produce black), EE is homozygous black, all offspring will have a black base. Other genes can modify base colors, like the agouti gene that is restricting the black on your mare.

Your mare is Ee (black gene from her bay sire, red gene from her dam), your mare is also either Aa or AA.

If your mare is heterozygous agouti and the stallion is homozygous black, you will either have a bay or black foal ;)

    Looking forward to more updates

She is somewhat food crazed right now won't take her head out of her bucket to save her life. I swear if I let her she wouldn't stop eating.
