Ok, this is my mares 3rd foal, and the last. (we are choosing not to breed her again unless something happens that this foal ends up racing very well and such) anyway, her foal is almost 2wks old now, and we have one huge paddock split into 2. We usually put the mare and foal on one side, and the other mare (her second foal actually, she's 2 this year) on the other side.
Our problem is right now we are trying to keep them out of the other paddock. With the rain and blah blah blah there is just no grass left. It was all tilled and sodded and we are waiting for the grass to grow. So we are left with only one paddock.
When can I put them all together in a paddock? Right now we are rotating them in the paddock so they can all get out, but arent out together. I wouldnt worry so much if this baby would stay by her mom, but she's very independent. Since the first time out she has NEVER stayed by mom and therefore we have had to halter and lead break her already for when we are moving them to the barn and paddock, and back, or else she just takes off wherever she feels like going.
I just don't want anyone getting hurt being out together. Momma is big and heavy so I don't worry about her, but I don't want the little foal getting hurt, and not my 2yr old either. Any suggestions or just keep doing what we are doing?????
