Wow that's amazing, so genetically a mule CAN have an offspring as long as they breed with a jack or a stallion, not another mule itself?

No. Genetically, mules cannot reproduce. They can carry the offspring, but due to their odd number of chromosomes, they cannot create the baby themselves. The mule that had a baby was special.

Mules are usually infertile. However, you said a jack. As in mammoth jack? They are very fertile and able to breed.

Isn't a mammoth jack a donkey, Allison? That's my understanding. A mule jack can't produce viable sperm, but a mammoth donkey jack is another thing entirely.

Lovely donkey, by the way. I hope to have a long ears of some sort one of these days.

Yes, a mammoth jack IS a donkey, even though many people mistake them for mules. They are used to produce many of the better mules.

Male donkey=jack
Male mule=john
