My mare is due to drop, but been waiting 2 weeks, any idea's?

Hi

I found out 3 weeks ago my mare was about to drop a foal. She had a foal a year ago and on her foal heat the stallion escaped into her field. She has had seasons since which is why we didn't think she was in foal, but then 3 weeks ago she started bagging up and the dates tie in. We rung vets and they said that they can have season whilst being pregnant. I started doing night checks a week later as she went from having a small bag on her to a rather large bag quite quickly.

The last 24 hours she has been mopping around but hasn't waxed up but all her milk veins are up. She is due on the 5th. Does anyone have any ideas when? And if she is likely to wax up?

Many Thanks

Not all mares wax. Mares also don't really have a due date, you just never know ;) Could go anytime from 300-400 days really, even beyond those extremes. 340 is the average for a full size horse (330 for minis and I believe Arabs) but really, you never know. My minis have ranged from 324 to 368.

Yep, have to agree with Chey. The timelines vary so much that there is no way to really predict exactly when they will go, even if you know the breed date. Just when you think they can't possibly go another day, they'll hold on for 2 more weeks.
