Funny you should say that about her teats as they were really big and long before she started bagging up, I presume from having a few foals previously but they seem to have shrunk quite abit now she is bagging up. Thanks for your guesstimate we too thought around a week do hope so!!!!!

Hi feathered feet, I live about an hour away from appleby. I go every year to the horse fair and I absolutely love it. My family usually stay the whole week. When we go in June I will be sure to mention you.

Thanks Netty. I've been to several other fairs in England, but never to Appleby. My daughter went to Appleby a few years ago. That is where she found Myst.

Stunning! Really nice markings it's lovely to see unusual markings. You should visit appleby if you get the chance it's the best of them all. So did you import/export Myst and was that expensive?

Myst was taken to Appleby by friends of ours in the UK. She was incredibly expensive so my daughter couldn't afford to purchase her and bring her to the US. However, another lady did import her, along with a few others. Steph finally purchased her a year later from the importer.

There was a large group from the US who went to Appleby that year. I think just about everyone fell in love with Myst, because she is THE sweetest thing. She has produced one gorgeous filly who went to Desert Jewel and is a keeper for them. This spring she is being trained under saddle.

All grown up now.

Wow that was really nice to read thanks for the link. Her tail is pretty impressive! I'm sure she did bring top dollar at appleby some of the prices are stupidly high! Would love to hear how she goes under saddle please do keep us updated. The gypsy cobs do have a great nature generally and I do love my mares. I'm sure when she is under saddle you will get lots of admiration (as i'm sure you do already) from people.

Thank you. So glad you like her. Actually, my daughter thins out her hair and feather, because she has waaaaay too much. Of course, this is highly regarded in Gypsies, as is great temperament and correct type bodies.

How is your mare looking today? We love the Dales, since they many years back, were thought to have made up part of the Gypsy heritage. Who is she bred to?

When I went to check on my mare tonight she was acting like the typical mare that was getting ready to foal... she had pored (sp?) her bedding all around her stable which I took to be trying to make it comfortable for her and she was very mouthy which is not the normal for her. When I was running my hands down her sides she extended her neck fully forwards and turned her head to a side angle and was also favouring the back wall of her stable with her head touching the wall. All this behaviour is not the norm so i'm thinking she is almost there. I also noticed tonight that from the v shape in her belly and finishing towards her chest it was all swollen. She is very full now on her bag but is not yet waxing or leaking milk how long do you think she could go on for? I didn't have my phone with me to take pictures sorry. Her rear has also softened and the two lines down her bum have appeared today. Checked her at 10pm tonight and no signs or anything out of the norm. I've read some threads that have said their mares have gone for weeks like this I really don't think she has weeks left, her due date is around now i'm so excited!!!

Subbing! :) Can't wait to see pics! I'm anxiously waiting on a maiden mare, she is 3 wks from her due date...suspense is killing me!

They are really good at fooling us. My mare last year I was certain she was going to go, spent most of the night in the barn with her (I've watched her foal at least 7 times before) she started eating again at 5 am so I was sure she would wait another night....went in the house long enough to make a pot of coffee and rest for a bit...back out at 7 to do chores and was greeted by momma and her new filly....darn horses!

That's so typical isn't it! I'm sure they do it on purpose. I've always believed that they prefer to foal through the night and by themselves. I never really get too hung up about checking through the night as I did that with my last mare and the exact same thing happened to me as soon as I left she had the foal!!!!!! Was greated with a lovely sight two hours later. My mare has foaled several times with no problems so i'm quite laid back this time round. My last mare was three weeks from bagging up to foaling and my mare now has been bagged for around that length of time and has seemed to progress over the last couple of days. Wuhoo so excited. Good luck for your arrival can't wait for picture overload
