Well, as if the crooked leg wasn't enough, now Zane (now 5 days old) has a navel infection.
I noticed his navel looked like it had something almost like proud flesh on it, so I put iodine on it, and it promptly started leaking a large amount of pus.
So I have two phone calls in to the vet, because I am worried about it turning into a systemic infection. Sigh! I tried to do everything right. I made momma a new pen where I hadn't kept horses before, put down straw, tried to catch the birth (was 1/2 hour too late), dipped his navel 3 times the first day. And now this.
The only good thing is that I think it must feel better to get all that pus out. He seems active and normal otherwise. It really hurts to the touch though as he fought me really hard and he is usually a very cooperative foal.
So I dunno. I called everyone I could think of, and could only get one person, a lady I know who raises several foals a year. She thought I should call the vet again (which is why I called him twice) and she has never had a foal with a navel infection before.
Any advice??? I just want the little guy to be healthy!
